Programs....
Mansfield Conservatory West is proud to offer the opportunity to dancers aspiring to a career in Professional Companies, Choreography and Teaching, a Private Training Program. Here the student can hone their strengths and attack their weaknesses, prepare them for auditions, assist with resumes and school selections and prepare them for the journey that lies ahead in the professional world. Acceptance into this program is by interview and audition only and is at the discretion of the director.
The Conservatory offers a variety of programs from which dancers can choose. For future ballerinas, the Children’s Program, Level 1&2 (ages 5&6) in the Ballet Department, offers an introduction to Ballet including basic positions of the arms and feet, creative movement, improvisation, music and a peek into The Ballet, costumes and shoes.
For children ages 7-12, Level 3&4, the program offers the basics of dance training, technique and understanding the art of performing. Students are evaluated during a placement class to determine the level that will best suit their abilities and that will provide them with the training needed to progress. Advancement is assessed on a regular basis and is discussed with both the student and their parent.
The High School Program,Level 5,6&7 ages 13-18, provides a challenging syllabus for students who aspire to go forward with a dance career and to those students who dance for the love of the art and have the desire to continue to improve. Several other classes are required for students in this program including Pointe, Variations, Choreography, Tap, Broadway Dance and Stretch/Core Strengthening. Acceptance into these classes requires a successful completion of Basic Ballet training. New students applying for acceptance into these Programs will be evaluated during a placement class prior to admittance.
Adult Programs are available for all ages and requires only the love of dance. Classes including Ballet, Tap, and Core Strengthening & Sculpting.
Tap and Broadway Dance classes are offered for ages 7-adult and provide fun and excitement while enhancing a well rounded dancer.
Mansfield Conservatory West’s Musical Theater Program teaches the students about the inner workings of Musical Theater, including acting, singing, dancing and technical production such as lighting, props, backstage management and cues. The Program provides a performance opportunity for students who audition for our yearly production. Students are involved in every aspect of the show including show selection, the audition process, role development, working together as a cast member and rehearsal and performance commitments. Students work with teacher, director and performer Jena Oberg throughout the school year. Auditions will be posted on the School bulletin board and on the Mansfield Conservatory West web site.
Although Mansfield Conservatory West does provide performance opportunities, we do not ask our students and their parents to participate in a costly, yearly dance recital. The goal for the Conservatory is to provide quality class training, uninterrupted by preparing for an annual recital.
During the months of February and March student evaluations and new class placements occur. These evaluations are conducted every school year. Students who have demonstrated great accomplishments throughout the year are given the opportunity to advance to a higher class level and/or additional class days. The decisions are made for many technical reasons as well as the students desire to progress into the next level in the Ballet Program. It takes extra work, dedication and time on the student and parents part. All of these are taken into consideration when promoting a student. Students advance not because of their age but their ability to perform in a more challenging class. Every student will receive a written evaluation and recommendation for the Summer Intensive Program and for next Season at the end of the school year. Parents and students are encouraged to make an appointment to discuss the evaluations and recommendations.
Regulation class wear can be purchased from our "Shoppe" including leotards, tights, shoes, sweaters, jumpsuits and pants, Dance Bags and Gifts.
